Mrs Derek Parker Bowles, the Commonwealth Chief

Osborne, the Canterbury Provincial Commissioner of the movemenL After being shown the new building, Mrs Parker Bowles went to the Hillmorton High School where she addressed a meeting of guides, brownies, rangers and leaders from the North Canterbury Gin Guides’ Association. She said there was a bond between guides round the world. “The uniform may be a little different, but guides and the guiding programme and movement are basically the same all over the world.” As the Commonwealth Commissioner, Mrs Parker Bowles is responsible for guides in such places as Hong Kong and the West Indies. When she leaves New Zealand she will travel to Australia and I Papua-New Guinea. Mrs Parker Bowles read a message from the Queen, the patron of the Girl Guides, who sent her best

wishes to all New Zealand girls in the movement. After her speech, Mrs Parker / Bowles was entertained by guides and brownies with poi dances, songs, dances and mimes. Later, she watched guides and brownies at work at various activities, and she was guest of honour at, a dinner at Cracroft House. She leaves Christchurch, this afternoon after a special luncheon at the Girl Guides’ Association’s national headquarters.
