LIAISON BODY
Students and police A committee to form liaison between university students and police has been established in Christchurch. This was announced yesterday by Mr G. Wells, the national affairs officer for the University of Canterbury Students’ Association. The purpose of the committee—which will be a permanent one—was to avoid any occurrence of the type of student-police confronts, tion that had been seen overseas, Mr Wells said. “We are endeavouring through this committee to come to some sort of understanding between police and students over the whole field of social and political ideas,” he said. The first activity of the new committee will be a studentpolice forum to be held at the university next Thursday. Chief Inspector B. L. Burrows will be the speaker.
