Medical centre
Tenders for a nine-floor medical centre to be built at Christchurch ’ Hospital would be called in about a month, the chairman of the North Canterbury Hospital Board (Dr L. C. L. Averill) said yesterday. The picture above is an artist’s impression of what the medical centre will look like. Only the nine-floor portion will be | built at this stage. I Parts of the existing hospital on Riccarton Avenue and Oxford Terrace will have to be demolished to make way for the lower building shown on two sides of the centre. Dr Averill said that eventually all that would remain of the present hospital would be the nurses’ new home and the chapel. In perhaps 20 years Christchurch would have a whole new hospital on the old site. ’ The clinical school will be
