Fall through bridge

(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Mar. 29. An Auckland typist, Miss Mary Granville, aged 19, is in a satisfactory condition in the Stratford Hospital today after falling 90ft into a tributary of the Wanganui River about 4.45 p.m. on Saturday. Miss Granville was crossing a swing-bridge when a plank moved and she fell through a hole in the decking. She blacked out and woke up in the shallow river. Although she suffered a spinal injury, Miss Granville dragged herself to the bank.

Miss Granville was on a hunting expedition with two friends and was carrying a loaded rifle. Her male companion climbed down to her and then went for help while the other girl stayed behind.

Rescuers from Whangamomona carried Miss Granville up the cliff from the river bank and she was taken to hospital.
