Brucellosis delay
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 29. If the Government did not receive financial help from the Meat Board for the eradication of brucellosis, the scheme could take much longer to complete, said the Prime Minister (Sir Keith Holyoake) today. Speaking after a meeting of the Cabinet he said that since seeing a deputation from the Meat Board, the Government had decided on a scheme costing s4Bm spread over seven years to eradicate the disease. This would have required s4.Bm in the first year. The Government’s original scheme provided for considerably, less than s4.Bm in the first year, Sir Keith Holyoake said. After representations from the industry the Government suggested that half the cost might be met from the board’s reserves in order to speed the scheme.
There had been no more developments since the latest scheme was rejected, Sir Keith Holyoake said.
