Pre-Munich trials
Z. Press Association! TAURANGA. The 1972 New Zealand senior athletics championships will be held on the $65,000 Porritt Stadium allweather track on March 3 and 4. This was said in Hamilton yesterday by the Waikato Athletic Centre secretary, Mr A. Taylor. The men’s and women’s championships will be the official selection trials for the Munich Olympic Games later in the year. Hamilton staged the senior championships in 1969, and normally would not get another turn until 1978. “But with the next championships being staged in an Olympic year, an all-weather track was necessary,” Mr Taylor explained. Dimedin, Wellington, Auckland and Hamilton have the only all-weather tracks.
