Jordan calm

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BEIRUT, March 29. Jordan, scene of violent clashes between Government troops and Palestinian guerrillas, appeared calm again late last night.

A guerrilla spokesman said that at least 70 persons were killed and hundreds wounded in fighting on Friday and Saturday in the northern city of Irbid. The Government in Amman put the Irbid casualties at about 40, including eight troops killed and 2Q wounded.

Amid the confusing reports the Palestinian Red Crescent Society appealed to the International Red Cross and to world opinion to intervene immediately and end the “savage and brutal massacre” by the Jordanian authorities of the Palestinians. “City streets were littered with bodies,” the society said. It also said that many people died needlessly because Government troops prevented supplies of blood plasma getting into Irbid.
