OVERSEAS TOURS FUND

The exhilarating prospect of an overseas tour, with all expenses paid, is opened up to members through the Four Square Research Fund, which has been operating successfully for many years. Delegates are selected by ballot, and research teams are sent abroad to study and report on the latest developments in the trade. In this way, the organisation is kept fully informed on new methods, materials and merchandise to the advantage of all members. The fund is financed

by a voluntary contribution of 20 cents a week, and for this small sum a member becomes eligible (after 12 months in the scheme) to be selected by ballot for either: THE WORLD TOUR, held every two years, and comprising organised travel and visits in the United States, Britain and the Continent; and— THE AUSTRALIAN TOUR, held every year,

and planned on the same terms and arrangements as the World Tour. This tour provides a wonderful opportunity of seeing the important developments in the Australian food trade, and of fraternising with Four Square colleagues across the Tasman. Inclusion in the World Tour does not disqualify a member from being

selected for the Australian trip, or vice versa. The leader of the 1970 research tour was Mr R. W. Thomas, general manager of Foodstuffs (Christchurch), Ltd. Mr J. R. T. Gold, a Four Square grocer, of Temuka was amongst the successful ballot winners. He was accompanied by his wife. The party totalled 34 from throughout' New Zealand.
