Jackpot will increase interest at Greymouth

A jackpot, starting with a pool of $11,150, will increase interest in the first night of the Greymouth Trotting Club’s autumn meeting at Victoria Park Raceway today.

The jackpot is expected to attract a number of followers of this form of betting, notably by Mr N. Grant, of Christchurch, who has cleared more than $lOO,OOO from substantial investments in the last 18 months.

More than just a little luck will be on the side of anyone fortunate enough to crack this evening’s jackpot, which will be run on races one to three and races five and six.

Three of the jackpot races cater for maiden pacers, another for maiden trotters and the final leg is a race for 2:19 class pacers. Vonnie Logan, Winter Haze and Friendly Rival form a likely trio in the first jackpot race, the First Gilmer Handicap. Tawera, which will this time be without the services of M. Holmes, who drove him when he was placed recently at Rangiora, Iceberg and Belle Song appeal most in th Golden Eagle Handicap. Russley John and Blue Spark should be the pick of the field in the King’s Handicap, while Valley Lord should go close to winning the Second Gilmer Handicap. Kaipuke Song and Winter Queen form a strong bracket in the Union Handicap, which is the second leg of the T.A.B. concession double. This race looks much more open now that Joygiver has been scratched. She and all other members of C. S. Donald’s Belfast team will miss the meeting.

Radiant Globe will be a commanding favourite for the first leg of the main double, the Victoria Park Free-for-all, a race in which most opposition to him may come from Royal Count and Snowline.
