Polling booth incident

NELSON, March 28.
At least two candidates in the Nelson City Council by-election on Saturday received a surprise when they went to cast their votes.
Upon retiring behind the screens at the polling place, Mr M. Rod well and Mr R. I- Kennedy were faced by a sticker containing the names of the 1969 Parliamentary candidates for the Nelson electorate. Both men, independently, notified the returning officer (Mr H. A. Levestam) of the presence of the sticker and hasty visits were paid to the 10 polling booths and the mobile booths to remove any offending notices. Mr McLennan topped the poll by a handsome margin.
