Bill to be explained
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, March 28.
A senior official of the Labour Department will visit Auckland on Tuesday to explain the Stabilisation of Remuneration Act to employers and unions. Mr H. Duncan will travel from Wellington at the request of the Auckland Provincial Employers* Association. The association had originally invited the Secretary of Labour (Mr E. G. Davy) to come to Auckland to clear up any misunderstandings about the Act.
It was tremendously important that the Employers’ Association should make the Act work, said the association secretary (Mr W. R. Thompson). "This association will take a very dim view of any member who tries deliberately to flout the legislation," he said.
But there were misunderstandings as to the meaning and effect of various sections of the Act, which it was now hoped Mr Hobson would be able to clear up.
Some of the companies that had requested the visit were at present the targets of direct union action over wage claims.
