ARMS SALES ISSUE
India leaves study group (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW DELHI, March 28. India has left the Commonwealth study group of eight nations appointed to examine any justification for British arms sales to South Africa, thus joining the boycott already declared by Nigeria and Malaysia.
The Indian Foreign Minister (Mr Swaran Singh) told Parliament that this action was being taken because Britan had decided, even before the member nations could meet for the first time, to sell Wasp anti-sub-marine helicopters to South Africa.
The Indian withdrawal leaves only Britan, Canada, Australia, Kenya and Jamaica in the study group, which was formed at the Commonwealth Prime Mnisters’ Conference in Singapore in January.
