Large crowd, high gate takings at Sheffield Show held on Saturday

Fine, mild conditions drew a large crowd to the Malvern Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s annual show at Sheffield on Saturday. • ,

It was one of the most successful Sheffield shows. Gate takings were a record $537 — $lOO more than last year. Ring events proved to be the principal drawcard for horse and pony owners, as well as spectators. Classes were well filled throughout. The sudden break in the weather, with very strong winds, did not come until well into the afternoon. The grand parade was just ending when the weather changed, sending spectators dashing to the shelter of their cars. In a very few moments the grounds were transformed, as trade exhibits and displays were packed up, and many people went home. After the initial southerly change, ring events were resumed, and a programme of jumping events was completed about 5.30 pm. The principal award in the light horse classes, the hack championship, was won by Mrs N. K. Rainey and R. Reid’s Cindy Marie. Earlier, the combination had won the list hack and lady’s hack classes. Condor, shown by I. Bell and Mrs B. Blackie took the reserve, and later in the day won the hunter championship. For exhibitors in some of the other sections, this has not been a favourable season for maintaining stock in ideal show condition. The very dry autumn was also reflected in the farm produce sections where entries were smaller than, usual. Championship awards were: Horses Hack: Mrs N. K. Rainey and • R.
