Beckenham wins
Beckenham won the second men’s grade in the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s competitions when it beat Shirley by 5 matches to 1 in a play-off at Wilding Park on Saturday. The results were:— Singles.—P. Mathewson lost to J. Hampton, 4-6, 6-1, 5-7; P. Mitchell beat S. Burns, 5-6 8-5, 6-2: D. Mitchell beat B. Ching, 64, 6-5: F. Lucas beat S. Petrie, «-2. Doubles.—P. Mitchell and Mathewson beat Hampton and Burns, 6-5, 6-2; D. Mitchell and Lucas beat Petrie and Ching, 3-6, 64, 9-7. Other results were:—
First mixed A ~ Avonside beat Burwood Park by 10 matches to 1; Edgeware beat Elmwood by 9 matches to 7.
