Man badly burnt in accident
A man was on the seriously-ill list in Christchurch Hospital last evening after an accident in which a car ran off the road and hit a tree beside the No. 1 State Highway near Hinds. Donald Gundry, of Ealing, No. 3 R.D., Ashburton, suffered serious head injuries in the accident, which occurred about one mile south of Frisby’s Road about 2.27 a.m. on Saturday. Last evening the hospital reported that Mr Gundry was unconscious, and that his condition was poor. The car was described as a write-off. In Christchurch, the fire brigade had to be called to assist in extricating injured persons from a car after a collision at the intersection of Colombo Street and Wordsworth Street about 7.20 pjn. on Saturday. Firemen from the Sydenham station used a coldspark saw and crowbars to free the injured. Gary Moore, of 17 Bailey Street, was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital with head injuries, and Kaylene Campbell was admitted to Christchurch Hospital with leg injuries. Last evening Miss Campbell’s condition was described as quite satisfactory. Mr Moore was discharged from hospital yesterday.
Cyclist hurt. Anthony Taylor, of 24 Rowley Avenue, was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital with head and leg injuries after the cycle he was riding was in-
volved in a collision with a car at the intersection of Sparks Road and Boon Hay Road at 3.17 p.m. on Saturday. His condition yesterday was fairly comfortable.
Blown from cycle.—After a . strong gust of wind blew her cycle into a parked car in Wainoni Road about 3.50 p.m. on Saturday, Jill Marie Broadhurst of 12 Bournemouth Crescent was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital with head injuries. She was discharged yesterday.
