The picketing farmers
Sir, —Over the years we have heard many long, loud, and bitter complaints from farmers about the irresponsibility of freezing workers, drivers, wharfies, seamen and others in delaying the shipment of farmers’ produce by strikes, go-slows, and stopworks. After the goings-on in Auckland and Mount Maunganui we can, mercifully, expect never again to have to listen to such hypocrisy. In fact, now that the drivers and railwaymen have so ostentatiously heaped coals of fire on the farmers* heads by supporting their hold-up of primary produce on the wharves, gratitude and contribution alike will require the farmers to come out solidly in support of the next shipping strike or freezing-works shut-down. Militants must sink or swim together—for my money, preferatfly sink. —Yours, etc., NOSELESS FACE. March 27, 1971.
