Tracked mini-bus
This caterpillar bus was built by the German Post Office to deliver the mail during the winter in the snowed-in areas along the River Rhone. The vehicle is primarily used to reach the television station Heidelstein, at an altitude of 800 meters
and close to the border of East Germany. This enables East Germans to have good reception from West Germany. The post office’s own roadprivate cars may not use it for safety reasons—is often under deep snow for many weeks.
The construction of the bus is relatively simple: two extra front axles are mounted under the ear and equipped with twin wheels. The cross-coun-try car is steered by braking on each series of wheels.
