President of Law Society

(N.Z. Press Associations WELLINGTON, March 26. For the first time in more than 100 years the New Zealand Law Society has elected its president from a district other than Wellington. He is Mr S. W. W. Tong, of Auckland, who replaces Mr D. McGrath, who has held office for the last three years.

At today’s annual meeting of the society, Mr McGrath commented that the number of members from districts other than Wellington had increased from eight to 24 in the last three years. The importance of the society’s public works was expected in an increase in representation on various society committees of members outside Wellington, he said. Office bearers of the society for the ensuing year are; president, Mr S. W. W. Tong; vice-presidents, Messrs J. P. Cook (South Island), J. D, Gerard (Auckland), F. L. Parkin (Wellington), A. G. Ward (North Island); treasurer, Mr W. G. Smith; secretary, Mr W. M. Rodgers.
