New brew of beer
(From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT, March 25. A new brew of beer made from the same type of yeast as that used by Morleys Brewery has been put on tap at a Westport hotel as a trial. Recently a petition was presented to Sir Henry Kelliher by a Westport man, Mr W. Riley, complaining about the standard of beer in Buller over the Christmas holiday period. Since then investigations have been made by Westland Breweries, which now comes under the major company, into the handling of beer and into variations in cooling in different hotels.
The Greymouth brewery which supplies most of the West Coast, will offer the beer to local publicans to gauge customer reaction. Mr M. Musto, manager of Westland Breweries, said that different yeast flavours had a big effect on the taste and aroma of beer. If the new type was acceptable there would be no problems in introducing it to Buller.
