(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, March 26. North Broken Hill Ltd, estimate that net profit for the six months to December 31 fell $203,000 or 4.8 per cent to $3,988,000, compared with the same six months of 1969.
Estimated profit on operations was $1,323,000 compared with $2,290,000 and to this was added $2,565,000 net investment income, compared with $1,901,000 last period. The value of mine production for the six months was $10,710,000 compared with $12,401,000 last period. Average metal prices for the six months, with those for the six months to December 31, 1969 shown in parenthesis, were: $243.44 ($262.25) a ton of lead, $278.58 ($271.29) a ton of zinc, 153.75 c (156.36 c an ounce of silver. Dividend number 180 of 2.5 per cent for six months is payable on June 4. The full year’s dividend last year was 15 per cent.
Petition filed A petition has been filed in the Melbourne Supreme Court for the winding up of Vehicle and General Insurance (Australia), Ltd. The petitioning creditor, a Melbourne motor repair company, claimed Vehicle and General had debts to various creditors totalling about slm. The petition is set down for hearing on April 16. Eastmet report Eastmet Minerals N.L., says that percussion drilling at its Wattagee Pool prospect in Western Australia has entered a zone of disseminated sulphides. Samples from the zone, which is 100 feet long, have been despatched to Perth for analysis. The directors say that it is not yet known if the sulphides are nickeliferous. Mr M. Barnett, who has been a director of New Zealand Breweries, Ltd, since 1953, has tendered his resignation from the board with effect from the end of this month. Mr E. E. Barringer, of Dunedin, has been appointed a director to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of I Mr Barnett.
