Engineering scholar
Mr C. W. Beckingsale, of Ashburton, who is studying for a master of engineering degree at the University of Canterbury, has been awarded the New Zealand Shipping Company’s postgraduate scholarship in engineering.
The scholarship, of the annual value of $6OO, is awarded annually on the recommendation of the Council of the University of Canterbury. Academic attainments, ability to pursue research, attainments outside the academic field, character and physical fitness are taken into consideration.
Mr Beckingsale, who is 20, last year took a B.E. with first-class honours in civil engineering. This year he is specialising in structural design computer techniques, systems engineering and the economics and operations of engineering. Later in the vear he will do a project on large-span suspended roofs.
When he has completed his studies, Mr Beckingsale , expects to work for a firm of j consulting engineers.
