PLANS TO SHIP OIL UNDER THE ARCTIC.—Mr S. B. Winram, director of Arctic transportation for the General Dynamics Corporation, using a scale model to explain the advantages of a submarine to carry oil from Alaska under the Polar ice cap to the world markets. Plans for the $2700 million vessel, which will be nuclear-powered, were announced by the company recently. A spokesman said the first “sub-tanker” could be ready within five years.
