Easter mail deliveries

There will be no mail deliveries by postmen or rural mail contractors from Good Friday to Easter Monday inclusive, the Chief Postmaster in Christchurch (Mr M. T. Reedy) said yesterday. Mail deliveries on April 8 and April 13 will be normal, he said.

The closing time for mails throughout the period will be normal with the exception of Good Friday and Easter Monday, when surface mails will close at 7 a.m. and airmails at 8 a.m. Street posting boxes will be cleared at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 8; at 9 p.m. on Good Friday, Easter Day and Easter Monday; and at the normal times on Saturday and the Tuesday following the holiday period. Postal counters at the Chief Post Office will close at 8.30 p.m. on April 8 and will remain closed over the holiday except for three hours from 8.30 a.m. on Easter Saturday. The Post Office Savings Bank will also close at 8.30 p.m. on April 8, but will not reopen until normal hours are resumed on April 13. The telegraph counter will close at 10 p.m. on April 8. remain closed on Good Friday, open between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. on Easter Saturday, be closed on Easter Day and operate from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Easter Monday.
