Tributes paid to Sir James Hay
Tributes to the late Sir James Hay, as a prominent citizen and a businessman and a philanthropist were paid at the annual meeting of the Citizens’ Association last evening.
The meeting also paid tribute to the late Mr G. Burns and the late Mr R. A. Witbrock. All three were members of the association.
Hockey.— J. Pearce, one of three brothers who helped Australia to win the silver medal in the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games, has retired from international hockey. Pearce, aged 33, who has represented Australia at the last three Olympics, said he was “tired of tripping around.”
