Schumann: ‘No veto’
(N. Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, March 26. France made it clear today that she was not imposing a veto on Britain’s entry into the European Common Market by raising the issue of the international role of sterling. The Foreign Minister (Mr i Maurice Schumann) told the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee that there was no question of a French veto, but he emphasised that Britain had to make a choice and accept the rules if she wanted to enter the Market. Mr Schumann spoke against the background of concern expressed in the British press after the French delegate had said in Brussels that the future role of sterling must be discussed along 'with other key issues in the i British entry negotiations. Mr Schumann said that | France had asked that this i matter be kept secret, and he I expressed regret at the publicity given to it.
