42 years in company
Mr H. Claridge will retire next Wednesday after more than 42 years with Burroughs, Ltd. For the last 33 years he has been branch service manager in Christchurch. He joined Burroughs in Wellington as a serviceman and served in Wellington and Auckland before being promoted to branch service manager in Christchurch in 1938. In this position he has seen the company grow tenfold in staff and turnover. Mr B. R. Thornton, who will succeed Mr Claridge, joined Burroughs in Christchurch in 1952 as a field engineer. In 1965 he was promoted to branch field engineer manager at Hamilton. In 1970 was promoted to head office at Lower Hutt in charge of marketing all field engineering supplies.
