Car prices increased

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 26. Two major makes of car have increased in price in the last fortnight. On Monday this week the cost of a new Hillman Hunter jumped $220, from $2975 to $3195.

At the same time other prices in the Chrysler range were increased.

A spokesman for the Auckland Motor Company, a dealer for this range, said today that the cost of the manual model Chrysler had increased from $3834 to $3925. So far his company had not been informed of the reasons for the increases. A spokesman for a leading Holden dealer in Auckland said today that the price of Holdens had risen slightly this month. tabout $l2O, he said. This was necessitated by a general inI crease in costs, including materials and wages. However, this was the first major Holden price increase since 1968, he said. Overseas prices had risen some time ago. OTHER ITEMS Fifty-three applications under the price justification scheme had been approved and another 54 were still being studied the Price Tribunal said in a statement today.

Commodities for which price rise approval had been given since last week’s announcement included frozen peas, New Zealand grown timber sold in the South Island, and certain brands or makes of confectionery, detergent, blankets, flannel squares, washing machines, container boards, paint, bricks (one South Island manufacturer), concrete blocks (one Christchurch manufacturer), roofing tiles (one Auckland manufacturer) and cement (one North Island manufacturer).
