THIRD SHOP TO CLOSE
The third shop since the introduction of the one-way street system Franklins Butchery—is to close its doors, and a fourth is looking for a new site, or it too might have to close down. Mr V. Trenberth, the proprietor of the butchery, said yesterday that since the introduction of the one-way system his turnover had dropped by 60 per cent. He said there was no future in the area for his business. The shop will close today. Mr Trenberth bought the business in 1956. He said he was not bitter about having to shut down. His customers seemed more upset than he was. Now he would probably go out and look for a job, he said. A fruit shop next door has a “to let” sign in the window, and a nearby hairdresser closed his shop two months ago. Mr D. T. N. Taylor, the manager of a nearby chemist’s shop, said that unless he could find a new site, his business, which he bought nine months before the introduction of the oneway street system, might have to close down.
Prisk’s Motor Spares, which is on the Madras-St Asaph Streets intersection has noted a 25 per cent drop in trade.
