Dummoy might win Tauranga feature race

Success for Dunmoy in the Japan-Bay of Plenty International Trophy Race at Tauranga tomorrow might get him a start in the Stars Travel Invitation Stakes the following week. At present the Stars Travel field totals 14, the latest de- ■ velopment being that Flying Crest has been withdrawn and replaced by Kia Marea. The club will limit the field to 14. But it would not be surprising if there were further scratchings and the consequent need to replenish the number of starters. Eleven of the 14 are engaged this week-end and there is the chance of injury. If Dunmoy were to win tomorrow it would be safe to assume he would be high on the “short list” of emergencies. • ■ ■

After a promising show of form during the spring, Dunmoy ran below expectations during the summer except for a plucky eighth in the Auckland Cup. BETTER FORM But in the last month he has looked very good indeed. Three starts back he ran second in the Egmont Cup at Hawera, and then gained a notable double at New Plymouth, winning the Caltex Cup by nearly three lengths, and the Taranaki Cup by five and a half. Another race in which he did not leave the result in doubt was the Manganui Handicap at Tauranga last autumn. Over the same distance as the race on Saturday, 10i furlongs, he came from last to score by five lengths. Dunrnoy carried 8.7 last time out, 91b above the mini-mum.-This time, with die scale down and the field stronger, he has 8.1 or 111 b above the minimum. Dunmoy’s toughest rivals look like being Spectre, Pamir, Tomray, Tama, and

Alison. All are in granu form. The top-weights, Ahjay, and Nunui, are notable in the main sprint, the City Handicap, and it will be most surprising if the smart three-year-old filly, Valletta, is not prominent in the finish.
