Walk Alone ineligible

Walk Alone, one of the early favourites, has been declared ineligible to start in the Christchurch Stakes,, the second leg of the T.A.B. concession double at Addington Raceway tomorrow. Also, he will be unable to start on the second night of the meeting. Walk Alone was assessed at 2:15 at the time nominations for the race closed and he was entered for the Farewell Stakes, a restricted free-for-all catering for horses on 2:16 and 2:15. He was also eligible for the Christchurch Stakes, another restricted free-for-all catering for 2:15 and 2:14 class horses, but he was j not entered for that event. The chief handicapper, Mr R. C. R. Morton, transferred Walk Alone to the Christchurch Stakes after he had won the Cheviot Cup at Rangiora last Saturday and been reassessed to a 2:14 mark. Mr Morton has subsequently discovered his error and declared Walk Alone ineligible, on the grounds that he could not be transferred to a race for which he was eligible at the time nominations closed for the meeting.
