Stablehand reinstated

(H.Z. Preu Auoclation) ADELAIDE. The leading trainer, J. B. Cummings, has been told to reinstate, a former stablehand. A Commonwealth conciliator, Mr J. Stanton, acting as an independent arbitrator by agreement of the parties, described Cummins’s dismissal of B. M. Spiers as “harsh and unreasonThe Australian Workers* Union had alleged that Spiers was dismissed because of his union activities, and asked that he be reinstated. But Mr Stanton said Cummings had dismissed . the employee after receiving an anonymous letter containing serious allegations against the man. Cummings had not confronted Spiers with the allegations or given him the opportunity to deny them, according to Mr Stanton, who said Spiers should lose pay only for M hours. Other employees at the stables went on strike over the dismissal.
