Frazier may be suspended

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW YORK. The world heavy-weight boxing champion, Joe Frazier, may be suspended until conclusive medical tests can be taken.

A physician for the New York State Athletic Commission said yesterday he would recommend this action be taken.

The physician, who treated Frazier for three days after his successful title fight against Cassius Clay, said that the 27-year-old champion was suffering from the symptoms of either a subwal haematoma or a concussion. He said Frazier suffered severe nausea, including vomiting, in the days after the bout, and “was more exhausted than any fighter I’ve ever seen. I’d call it an exhaustion complex.” A subdural haematoma is a blood clot in the tissue surrounding the brain, and its symptoms include nausea, headaches, high blood pressure and a low pulse rate.
