Women’s field days held by the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association every Thursday during the summer season at Wilding Park have been very strongly supported, drawing more than 100 players on some days. Representatives from most of the association’s affiliated clubs have competed in doubles tournaments for A grade players one week and B grade the next.

When the days began several years ago, they were held irregularly but as the. popularity grew they went from fortnightly to weekly, con-

ducted by Mrs B. Miles, a member of the association’s management committee. The photograph shows A grade players before they began yesterday. They played only a few sets before the day was washed out, one of the few fixtures this season that has suffered.

Golf.—The Taiwan golfer, Hseih Min Man, won the pro-am tournament played as a prelude to the Thailand open championship at Bangkok.League.—The Australian Rugby league test forward, A. Beetson, has been transferred by Balmain to a rival Sydney club, Eastern Suburbs, at a fee reported to be about $10,006. ■
