Servicewomen hold anniversary reunion

Christchurch former W.A.A.F.s were among the 500 former servicewomen from New Zealand and Britain who attended the thirtieth anniversary reunion of the New Zealand W.A.A.F.S in Wellington last week-end. Those attending came from all parts of New Zealand, Australia and the United States, and Fiji. Activities over the weekend included sight-seeing trips, a cocktail party, dinner and dance, and a church service on the Sunday. The first ■ 200 W.A.A.F.s joined the service in April, 1941, taking up duties as mess hands, cooks, transport drivers, and medical, administrative, equipment, and stores clerks. A total of 5000 W.A.A.F.s served between 1941 and 1945.

It is hoped next year to held a reunion celebrating the twenty-first anniversary of the enlistment of the first British ex-servicewomen into the R.N.Z.A.F. The first were enlisted in London in April, 1951.
