Ironside returns next Thursday
One of the most popular crime detection series among New Zealand audiences is “Ironside,” which stars Raymond Burr as a wheelchair detective. “Ironside” has much more to commend it than the “Perry Mason” series in which Burr starred. There the format was inflexible and irritating. “Ironside” has more movement, and not too much, as a rule, of the principal. In the first year of “Ironside” Raymond Burr had the honour of being nominated for two acting awards for the same characterisation—
for the best single performance by an actor (World nremiere: Ironside) and the best actor in a dramatic series. Earlier in 1959 and 1960, he was selected as the best actor in a leading role for his “Perry Mason” series. Burr, who visited New Zealand last year, has in the new series of “Ironside” Don Galloway as Sergeant Ed Brown, Don Mitchell as Mark Sanger, and Barbara Anderson as Policewoman Eve Whitfield. Gene Lyons continues his role of Police Commissioner
Randall, who depends on the valuable friendship and invaluable aid of Chief Ironside and his staff. “Ironside” starts screening from CHTV3 next Thursday.
