Cattle out of quarantine
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Mar. 24. The first shipment of overseas cattle to go through the new maximum security quarantine station at Somes Island came ashore in Wellington this afternoon. They were 20 Charolais heifers, five in calf, destined for their stud stock owners throughout New Zealand. A spokesman for Wright Stephenson’s bloodstock department said today that the first shipment had been in the nature of a trial run of the Agriculture Department’s new quarantine system. The results had been well up to expectations and the cattle had been kept in top condition during their stay.
