Palace denial of romance rumour
(N.Z.PA.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, March 23. Reports of a romance between Princess Anne and a British Olympic horseman have caused resentment in Royal circles.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “I do not deign to pay any attention to this type of fatuous story.” The^ reports. published in
Belgium and West Germany, linked the Princess, herself a keen horsewoman, with Mr Richard Meade, a member of Britain’s equestrian team at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico. The reports said that the “romance” had angered the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, who were sending Princess Anne on a world tour to bring it to an end. Official sources, however, say that there is no question lof a world tour, that Prinjeess Anne will accompany her parents to Canada in May, as arranged. Mr Meade is quoted as saying that “romance” was too strong a word for his friendship with Princess Anne. "To talk about a romance is to make a mountain out of a molehill,” he said. “But we ar? obviously more than casual acquaintances. Let us just say that our paths have crossed a lot.”
