Drift card returned

The Oceanographic Research Centre of the Flinders University of South Australia is conducting a survey on ocean currents south of Australia, and to assist in this work has released a large number of plastic drift cards. Recently Robert Garbes, of Avoca Street, Kaikoura, found one of these cards, about sin by 3in and stamped with the name of the university and an identification number. He returned it to the university, giving details of where he found the card on the beach at Mick’s Bay, east of the new wharf at Kaikoura. The director of the research centre (Professor R. Radok) has since sent the card back to its finder, with a covering letter saying that it was one of 500 released at 9 a.m. on January 20, 1970. Professor Radok said that he would appreciate details of any more cards which might be found but did not require the actual card to be returned to the research centre.
