Frozen pea price rise

(NJ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Mar. 22. All brands of frozen peas and many frozen foods distributed by Birds Eye Foods (N.Z.), Ltd, rose in price today. The firm increased its price of fish fingers, fish cakes, steaklets and TV dinners by up to 10 cents a packet. The joint managing director of J. Wattie Canneries, Ltd, Mr R. Wattie, said in Hastings that his firm had not yet looked at increasing its prices, other than in frozen peas. While a 6 cent rise in the retail price of frozen peas raised the price for a 30oz pack from 45 cents to 51 cents, with corresponding increases for smaller sizes, housewives can still buy them cheaper at “special” prices.
