Road safety work

In spite of all the efforts that were being made, the road toll had continued to rise, and the Christchurch Metropolitan Road Safety Committee must continue to offer advice and assistance, the chairman (Mr R. S. Mayer) told the committee last evening in his annual report. The committee should continue to press for improvements in traffic control and it should encourage drivers to take part in training courses such as those arranged by the Ministry of Transport, and the defensive driving courses sponsored by Rotary Chibs. The committee should also encourage a more responsible attitude on the part of drivers.

Mr Mayer was re-elected chairman for the next year, and Mr D. L. Hogan was reelected deputy chairman.
