Farmers ' new fashion floor has gone to all fashion lengths to please...

• . . new presentation ... best selection » 1971 has certainly started off an exciting year for the followers of Fashion. Farmers' predicted these fashion changes many months ago and set about to give our fashion customers not only the best selection of merchandise available, but the best possible presentation to make selection easier. As you step onto the new First floor the change is immediately apparent. Bright new presentation and a selection of the very best Autumn fashions. All in an atmosphere that is up-to-the minute with overseas trends. Farmers’ have made every effort to cater with fashion from the young to the mature woman in this new fashion floor. A "total" fashion floor incorporating Fashions, Sportswear, Underwear, Shoes and Childrenswear bringing a new kind of convenience to fashion shopping in the 70's. fashion predictions Most of us are now aware of the changes in lengths that have taken place and the early controversies and conflicting reports that filtered through Newspapers from overseas; however much credit must go to the manufacturers in New Zealand who have sensibly gone about gathering up information and details not only to produce garments of new length but of exciting new styles. Farmers' Fashion Buyers have put in many, hours around the Fashion Houses of New Zealand selecting the many exciting garments that are now available in our new Fashion Showroom. New, interesting textures and weaves dominate the Fashion scene as do the many exciting colours such as Burgundy, Grape, Rust, Bottle Green and Black.

Coats this year are much longer and although Midi is the fashion length Farmers' suggest that the finished length should be of the Customer’s choice. Amongst our coat selection this year are a range of English Bickler Coats that were popular sellers during the English Winter. Many New Zealand manufacturers have made the most of imported Tweeds and Woollen Fabrics and Fanners' have a great variety in styles and prices to offer. Very popular at this stage ere the many styles of Leather Jackets and Coats. Strong preferences are being shown for the lightweight Vinyls in Browns, Greys and Greens with Black, Brown, White and Red in Wet Look Coats proving very popular especially amongst the younger Fashion buyers. Dresses, like Coats, are longer in length but definitely not Midi. Most popular are Knitted Wool Jerseys in ribbed and plain designs with wide belts and the most fashionable feature being boot lace tied belts.

Sportswear Farmers’ Sportswear Department Is also a blaze of colour with Cranberiy, Violet, Bottle Green, Orange and the natural colours dominating the merchandise. Styling in Knitwear is also much longer with belts and big buckles dominant on the casual knitwear. Boucle ribbed and patterned knits make a welcome change to cardigans, twinsets and dressier knitwear and here too new colours to team up with skirts and blouses are part of the changing scene. Vonnel is proving very popular in blouses and Farmers’ have a big selection of checks and plains in the deep fashion colours. One style that looks very smart with a Midi Skirt actually has a broad contrasting tie as part of the design. In predicting this winter's fashion scene Farmers’ Sportswear Buyer bought skirts from Midi to above the knee length and these are proving most popular. Minis are out and the longer styling is well suited to the Donegal and Herringbone Tweeds while the ever popular checks also remain in favour, particularly with the older age group. Slacks have really gone bold and featured amongst Farmers' large range are some exciting printed Wool Jersey designs in unusual colour combinations of Purple and Raspberry and Mallard and Peacock. Large dominant checks on bold colours and small checks on darker colours are a big part of our popular selection.

Underwear Underwear styling too has been the subject of the designers pen and Farmers’ have an exciting range to offer. A Maxi length Housecoat in Tiger or Grey Snakeskin design fabric is undoubtedly something different and has every appearance of being the real thing. Shirt styled shorty nights in bold plain colours and stripes are also in complete contrast to the accepted pastels of the past. In fact colours such as Orange, Ruby, Regency Green and Woodstock which is a dark Brown, make underfashions compatible colourwise with their outergarment counterparts. Of course pastel colours still exist add-the smartest of these are mixed together in floral designs.

fabric for 70's 1971 has already heralded exciting fashion changes at Farmers' for the winter season and already our Buyers are researching the market for summer 1971/72. Fabrics appear to be quite dif ferent and fall into four different categories; Voiles, Denim types, Knits and Crepes, Silks and Knits with a surface sheen. Colours too are changing and are generally soft and faded looking rather than crisp and clear. Rose and Periwinkle Blue are dominant in lots of fabrics. Generally the look is old fashioned tiny florals on dark backgrounds, small geometric designs on plain backgrounds and for the non mod squad dark paisleys and the more traditional floral patterns. fashions change One thing is sure the very best in the changing Fashion world is always available at Farmers’ Fashion stores, and it is with great pride that we now introduce at our Cashel Street store, a continuous presentation of Fashion in surroundings only surpassed by the design and styling of the merchandise itself.

Th£ story on accessories As in any year or in any fashion wardrobe accessories always play a large part So often the changing styles in Footwear, Millinery and Handbags are overshadowed by the bolder changes taking place in the garment field. Farmers' accessories Buyers have noted the fashion changes so that where possible a total fashion look is available. Boots are the footwear story of the winter, especially Crinkle Patent in Black, Burgundy, White, Violet Brown and Blue. Also creating a lot of interest are the imitation Python and Crocodile styles. Black military styled lace-up fronts are also very much in demand. Shoes too have become more squared oft in the toes and heels and quite cluncky looking with bold trims and sliver. Farmers’ Handbag Buyer has repeated the shoe story with a large selection of Handbags of bold and colourful styles. Wet Look Leather in Red, White, Blue, Black and Violet, trimmed predominantly in Silver. Longer handles are also part of the look which is designed to match the Midi fashion length. Millinery too has changed dramatically with many styles featuring bigger brims with simple bold trimmings. Farmers’ Hosiery Buyer also aware of the changing styles and colours has purchased Panty Hose that tones with all the latest fashion shades, such as Plum, Gretna (Bottle), Brazil Midnight, Claret Bravo (Rust), Blue Smoke. This Panty Hose line now in manufacture will be a must for the woman not wearing boots. Farmers’ Childrenswear Buyer has not been outdone and has selected merchandise in the same class as big sisters. Exciting Trouser Suits, Coats and Dresses created in the latest styles and fabrics. Skirts and Slacks that are equal to their adult counterparts in styling and colours.
