RACING Good gallop by Kirrama, no sign of lameness

The brilliant three-year-old Kirrama galloped six furlongs on the course proper at Hastings yesterday morning. He ran the last five solidly, pulled up sound, and was showing no sign of lameness.

Working on the course proper, where the going was good with a thick sole of grass, Kirrama (C. Hercock) ran six furlongs in 1:17 1-5, the last five furlongs in 1:4 and the last three in 39 4-5.

It was a very relaxed workout, and at no stage did he pull or even fight for his head. He pulled up well, and there seems no doubt that he, has recovered from the muscle soreness that has been troubling him. Mrs M. V. Greene, Kirrama’s owner, and the colt’s; trainer, Mrs R. G. W. Todd,; were pleased with the workout, and said that the horse would race at Tauranga in the Stars Travel Invitation if he did well enough in the meantime. He might also run in the Great Northern St Leger Stakes, but it would not be possible to go ahead with the projected trip to Sydney fot the AJ.C. Championship Stakes. Several Hastings horses

{with engagements at the Mai nawatu meeting on Saturday also impressed. They i included Lilt, one of the 'favourites for the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes, Partner and Leon, which are in ! the Adderstone Handicap, and |the Awapuni Gold Cup runner, Game. • Lilt (R. Marsh), which is Marchere’s chief rival in the Sires’ Produce Stakes at Awapuni, worked with Honey Queen (L. Carston). They ran five furlongs in 1:3 1-5, the last three in 39 3-5. Honey Queen streaked clear in the middle stages, but Lilt picked her up effortlessly at the top of the straight and was not doing her best to have her speedy rival well covered at the line. Relampago (R. Marsh), which is in the Adderstone Handicap, ran seven furlongs

brilliantly in 1:29 1-5, the last three in 38 1-5. Another outstanding gallop over seven was that of Leon also ridden by March which took 1:29 3-5, and ran the last three in 39 2-5. Leon fresh Leon has freshened, and he should be capable of a bold race this week. His stablemate Astrella came through her good race in the sprint last week in good style, and will race at Tauranga and then in the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie. Astrella was checked half-way through last week’s Epsom Handicap, so her seventh was a good effort. On the plough, Richman (L. Carston) ran six furlongs easily in 1:20, the last three in 40. He is in the Manawatu

Mile and, though drawn wide, is very well. - Game (R. Marsh) worked solidly over six furlongs in 1:19 1-5, the last three in 39 1-5. He kept going strongly around to the six furlong peg again, completing the full round in 1:42 2-5. This was splendid work, and as usual Game did it well. On the course proper, Quick Sal (A. Pringle) and Golden Gurkha (R. Bevins) went five furlongs. Golden Gurkha led a length and a half at the finish in 1:5 2-5, the last three in 39. They should be ready to race well at the Napier Park meeting next week. Singleton (P. Julius), which is also racing at Napier Park, took 1:19 4-5 for six furlongs, the last three in 40 4-5. False Problem (P. Coleman) and Partner (B. Dodds) ran 1:17 3-5, the last three in 39. Partner went very well and might be a threat in the Adderstone Handicap.
