Rose of Tralee"
Miss Bronwyn Gill, who was crowned recently as the 1971 “New Zealand Rose of Tralee,” is a secretary with an Auckland clothing manufacturer. Aged 21, she has green eyes, brown hair, and is sft 7in. Her Irish ancestors came from Dublin. The crowning was at a ball in Auckland attended by 600 guests. The district titleholders were escorted by a company of men from the Irish Guards, who have been exercising with the New Zealand Army at Papakura Military Camp, in their red dress uniforms. Four buglers from the Irish Guards played a fanfare from either side of the stage just before the judges announced Miss Gill as the winner.
Miss Gill will tour New Zealand, sponsored by Mount Cook Airlines, before she leaves for the international contest in Ireland in July.
