Playing for the Cashmere team against Riccarton in the newly-formed secondary schools’ junior grade competition, Miss Sally Russell took 10 wickets for only five runs. Bowling very accurate medium pacers, Miss Russell clean-bowled her first eight victims, trapped another in front, and had the tenth one caught. Her final analysis of six overs, four maidens, 10 wickets, for five runs, enabled Cashmere to dismiss Riccarton for only 21, in reply to her own side’s total of 68.
