ADDINGTON MARKET Prime lambs sell well; sheep easier

Prime-stock values were generally back a little on recent rates at the Addington market yesterday.

Good-quality steers and heifers met a firm sale, but the plain and lighter-weight cattle had a slower sale, values showing a small decline.

Prime-ewe values opened on a par with last sale, but with a larger yarding they eased in the closing stages. Young wethers met a fair sale, but also at easier rates.

With only a medium-sized entry, the prime-lamb market remained fully firm. Considering the dry conditions throughout Canterbury, the store cattle market was very sound. Dairy cattle also sold well. Prime lambs At 1360 compared with 1410 last week, the prime lamb yarding was again of only medium size, although adequate for trade requirements.
