Reserves bill adopted
The City Council last evening formally adopted the City Reserves Empowering (No. 2 1971) Bill.
The amended bill mainly defines the parcels of land in which former acts and ordinances are revoked. The bill will be available for inspection by the public at the Magistrate’s Court and will be advertised in the newspapers. Cr R. M. Macfarlane said he would vote against the bill because the motorway system everywhere in the world iwas under investigation. I “The Christchurch Regional (Planning Authority needs a (thorough investigation becajve we all know it is the
authority’s motorways that are being foisted on the public. It is a clear case of the tail wagging the dog. “Paparua wants to pull out of the authority and Heathcote does, too. People all over the world are against the invasion of the motorcar,” Cr Macfarlane said. “Utter political drivel,” replied Cr L. G. Amos. Harper Avenue has gone through Hagley Park for years. Land taken for the motorway will be restored by closing part of Harper Avenue. “The Labour speakers are only trying to make an issue for October,” Cr Amos said. The bill was formally adopted on the motion of Cr G. D. Hattaway.
