Plans for colt (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Panzer done so well since his second to Silver Knight in the New Zealand St Leger that he will have two starts before leaving for Australia on either April 5 or 6 to contest the $50,000 Champion Stakes (lOf) at Ranwick. The first of these races will be in the weight-for-age Awapuni Gold Cup this Saturday, and the second in next week’s weight-for-age Stars Travel Invitation Stakes at Tauranga.

His owner, Mr P. Moran, said yesterday that the Awapuni start had been advised by his trainer, J. Revel. "If you don’t race him he gets away from you in condition.”

Mr Moran believes Panzer Chief will probably have only the one start in Australia. “I have not had a chance to look at the programmes to see what else is suitable, but 1 don’t think we’ll be staying,” he said.

Without the presence of a New Zealand-bred and trained competitor, the title Australasian Champion Stakes would have been a misnomer, but with Panzer Chief a starter, New Zealand is going to have a formidable representative. Booked on the same plane as Panzer Chief is the former South Island three-year-old, Lincoln’s Inn, which has won four times this season. Lincoln’s Inn is now owned by Mr N. Jones. Since his purchase he has been with J. Bromby at Cambridge, Another Cambridge-trained galloper on the flight is Kind Regards, a candidate for the $50,000 Sydney Cup on Easter Monday. At her last start Kind Regards, winner of the Great Northern Oaks last autumn, ran fourth over 11. furlongs behind Tomray at Trentham on March 13. Marchere in good trial ‘‘Ttfe Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. Marchere preceded her trip to Awapuni yesterday for the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes with a pleasing gallop lefthanded on the inside grass at Takanini. She was taken south soon afterwards in excellent ! order for Saturday’s big race.

Marchere worked with a stablemate, Ruth’s Edition, which I also shaped attractively in preparation for Whangarei on Friday. Ruth’s Edition (Andrews) went a mile, and Marchere (Skelton) joined her for the last five furlongs in Imin 3sec. Marchere will be ridden on Saturday by R. J. Skelton, who has also been engaged for Ngatea’s Dream and Mr Pal at AwapunL
