VISIT BY GUIDE COMMISSIONER
The Commonwealth Chief Commissioner of the Girl Guides’ Association, Mrs Derek Parker Bowles, will visit Christchurch on April 21 and 22. Her visit is part of a New Zealand tour which will begin on April 7 and will take in centres from Auckland to Invercargill. She will be accompanied by Mrs W. G. Turnbull, New Zealand chief commissioner. An active member of the guide movement since childhood, Mrs Parker Bowles has,
during her guiding career, served on a number of Commonwealth headquarters’ committees. In 1966 she was appointed chief commissioner. In the same year she led the United Kingdom delegation to the world conference in Japan and later to the world conference in Finland. In 1969 Mrs Parker Bowles was presented with the association’s highest award, the Silver Fish, in recognition of her long and outstanding service to the movement.
