Davis Cup manager
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. A long-standing member of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, Mr E. D. B. Lusk, was last night named as the Davis Cup team manager for this year. Mr Lusk was one of five nominations considered for the position at an executive meeting of the association. For the first time in memory a secret ballot was needed to decide which of the five men should get the posting. The others nominated were Mr A. Tills (Auckland), Mr I. D. Wells (Wellington), Mr J. H. Lockington (Waikato) and Mr R. B. Brown (Canterbury).
Tennis players overtaxed? Two suggestions in the report of Canterbury’s Nunneley Casket’s team manager (Mrs P. Leopold) were discussed by the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s management committee at th. players should only have to play one singles and one doubles match per person on one day and that the tie-breaker could be used to eliminate the length of matches. Smith. The convener of the competitions committee (Mr A. D. Atkinson) expressed his concern at the Edgeware club defaulting a number of its matches this season.
“It has defaulted twice in both the senior men’s and women's grades this season. A club that performs in this manner should not be allowed to enter In the competition at all,” he said. “It is most inconsiderate to its ' opponents.” «
