CHANNEL SWEEP.—The Royal Navy has sent a frigate, three mine-sweepers, three mine-hunters, and two survey ships into the English Channel to try to find a safe westbound route through the Channel ’since the sinking of the tanker Texaco Carribean, the German cargo ship Brandenburg, and the Greek ship Niki, in the last two months. The Royal Navy ships are shown at the start of their sweep. The Navy expects to be able to find a new route between the Varne and Ridge sandbanks which would take the busy Channel traffic away from the wrecks that have cost so many lives in such a short time.
